The three races, elves, orcs, and humans, are locked in conflict. To lessen the bloodshed, the nations agreed to hold a tournament once every one hundred years in which a champion from each race was chosen to participate in a series of trials until one was left standing. For the 38th tournament, the husband of Winter Stars, Lunar, has been chosen. He must leave his wife and son to travel to the arena and become the next champion for the humans, a circumstance that will certainly lead to his death. The humans, throughout the centuries, have never won a single tournament. Those in the human nation who were chosen considered it a death sentence. But before the tournament begins, Lunar and his family are met with a terrible twist of fate. A situation considered to be so morbid takes a turn for the worst.
